Blue Diamond Sells for Record Euro 1.134.500



A very rare blue diamond sold € 7,184,500 at auction in London on Wednesday, setting a new world record price per carat.

The elegant deep blue diamond weighing 5.30 carats, sold at Bonhams Fine Jewellery sale in central London for a record 1,361,400 million per carat.

The diamond was bought by Graff Diamonds International Diamonds home community is in a ring "Face Book" made by Italian jeweler Bulgari circa 1965.

"We are happy with the price he did," said Jean Ghika, director of Bonhams jewelry. "It was a stunning stone that has captivated all who saw him before the sale."

"Blue diamonds, 5.00 carats in particular, is very rare on the market and are always coveted. We are honored to have handled the sale of a single piece of jewelry."

The term "fancy" is used to describe a diamond of intense color. Blue is derived from small amounts of impurities of boron in the diamond.
